LYC 2018 Season Welcome

;text-indent:0px;text-transform:none;white-space:normal;word-spacing:0px;background-color:rgb(255,255,255);text-decoration-style:initial;text-decoration-color:initial;margin:0px 0px 10.66px”>Dear Members

When you arrive at LYC this spring, you will notice that a lot of hard work has been done to make the 2018 season another one of the best. The clubhouse has been painted and repaired, the parking lots have been raked and leveled, and the marina has been readied for your boats.
I am excited to announce the hiring of Christine Ventura as Club Manager. Christine impressed the interview committee with her skill, enthusiasm, ideas and personality. As Club Manager, she will play a role in inventory control, event planning and execution, monitoring compliance with OSHA, personnel, fire and health department requirements, club maintenance, and coordinating communication with members and staff. With the full support of the Board, Membership and staff, I anticipate that she will be able to accomplish many of our initiatives. Please join me in welcoming Christine when she joins us April 15th!
Our restaurant will continue to be the envy of the Bay. Susan will be returning as Head Chef as will several of our former stewards. We will be open for Friday andSaturday evening dinners on April 20th.
Junior Sailing has been preparing for both four and eight-week sessions. We are expecting the 2018 season to have one of the largest sailing programs in LYC history. Once again, we will be offering adult sailing lessons both on Thursday evenings and Saturday mornings.
Our Entertainment and Women’s Committees have planned an exciting program of social activities for the season. We start off with the New Members Luncheon and the Opening Cocktail Party on Memorial Day Weekend. Along with Family Day, Sunset Cocktails, Night in Havana, Docktails, Regatta Day, and the Past Commodore’s Dinner, many other nights of music on the porch have been planned.
Our Planning Committee always has a critical eye on the future direction of the Club. We continue to evaluate our club’s infrastructure needs, its capacity needs, and our members desires, all with the aim to determine short and long-term renovations, replacements and additions.
LYC continues to be known as an excellent sailing venue. Last year we hosted the Sunfish MidAtlantic Championships and the Flying Scot District Championships. This year we will be hosting the 4.7 and Radial divisions of the Laser District Championships in August and the 50th Anniversary of the M-Scow Eastern Championships in September. We will host our own Jr. Team Race and Caryn Wilson Regatta and VC George Anderson is planning another glorious Bay Day. In August, we will host the Military Family Appreciation Day. Families from Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst will enjoy breakfast, power and sailboat rides, and a barbeque lunch. As always, we will rely on our member volunteers to help plan and execute all these great sailing events!
Our By-Laws and Rules and Regulations Revision Committee has been hard at work all winter. The Rules and Regulations have been revised to reflect our current operations and to correct discrepancies that became apparent. The Rules and Regulations, as approved by the Board of Governors at our March meeting, are attached for your review. They will be posted on the Club bulletin board and will be accessible on the LYC website. They will no longer be included in the Directory.
All in all, we have an exciting and event filled 2018 season planned. See you on the water and at the club!

Nancy Seggel
