LYC Adult Sailing Programs – Summer 2017

LYC is once again offering members the chance to experience the fundamentals of sailing, and racing on Barnegat Bay. Both programs described below are being led by LYC volunteers.

Beginners Program morning – Led by David Powell

Program overview:

  1. David Powell leads the Saturday morning sessions.
  2. Sessions run from 9:30 AM – 11:30 AM
  3. Students (club members only) will gather on the LYC porch and be assigned an instructor.
  4. The basics of sailing will be taught on the bay.
  5. Upon returning to the club students & instructors will gather on the porch to briefly review lessons learned – duration ~10 minutes.

The Beginners program relies in part on club members to host students on their sailboats.  So, we are seeking volunteers that own Sandpipers, Sanderlings, or Flying Scots.  If you are willing to serve as an instructor on your sailboat or one of the two LYC Hunters for the Beginners program please contact David Powell.

If you wish to participate in the Beginners program please email David Powell @ or 941 685 9547 indicating how many members there will be in your party and which of the dates listed above you will be available.

Sunfish Program (novice & intermediate) afternoon – Led by Dave Thompson

Program overview:

  1. Held each Saturday and led by Dave Thompson. Dave is one of LYC’s most accomplished sailors and he freely shares his knowledge.
  2. Sessions will run from ~1 PM – 3PM
  3. Weekly ‘Chalk Talks’ will be provided.
  4. Students will participant (club members only) in Sprint races, and practice their sailing skills.
  5. Upon returning to the club participants will gather on the porch to reviews lessons learned.

If you wish to participate in the Sunfish program email David Thompson @ or call him @ 908 216 1002 indicating that you will participate.

These programs are a terrific opportunity to get out on the water in an informal setting.  So, what are you waiting for?

Best Regards,
George Anderson
