Our Instructors
Head Coach
HONOUR HARRINGTON
Honour grew up sailing out of IHYC, and now lives there with her husband. She has been sailing on the Barnegat bay for 20 years! She has over 12 years of sailing instructor experience. Honour was the head instructor at OGYC for 9 years, and has also worked at SPYC and MYC. She teaches 8th grade science in West Windsor in the off season, and spends her winters skiing as much as possible. She is passionate about teaching sailors sportsmanship and stewardship of our bay! She went to the University of Delaware, and is working on a masters at TCNJ.

Race Coach
BRIDGER
Bridger grew up spending his summers in Mantoloking where he sailed Optis, 420s and lasers at MYC. He has lived in seven different places since he was born, but now he lives in Jacksonville, Florida and he will be attending Syracuse University where he will study political science in the fall. Bridger has worked at Lavallette since the summer of 2021 working with pre-sailing as well as beginning sailors and loved it ever since. He loves seeing the children that he coaches expand their skills and gain confidence on the water. Sailing isn’t his only hobby, he loves skateboarding, running track, and cars! He cannot wait to see everyone again and have an amazing summer!

Green Coach
MADELEINE
Madeleine spends her summers in Bay Head where she grew up sailing Optis and 420s at BHYC. She recently moved from Baltimore, MD where she went to high school and her family now lives in Naples, FL. She will be a sophomore at Cornell University in the fall where she studies psychology and business. She has coached at LYC since 2021 and has loved it! She has coached both beginner and advanced Opti sailors. She loves coaching and getting to know all of the amazing kids at LYC, as well as helping them grow as sailors. Besides sailing, Madeleine enjoys playing soccer and basketball as well as making and selling jewelry. She is very excited for another summer at LYC!

420 & Sunfish Coach
TOMMY
Tommy grew up spending his summers sailing Optis and c420’s at Mantoloking Yacht Club. He is originally from Bethesda, Maryland, but now attends Georgetown University, where he will be a sophomore in the fall. At Georgetown, Tommy studies Government and is on the Varsity Sailing Team, which races in FJ’s and Lasers. Tommy has worked at Lavalette since 2021, and has loved every summer! He has coached both beginner, intermediate, and advanced Optis and has loved getting to know and be a part of the great LYC community. When he isn’t sailing, Tommy enjoys playing tennis, hiking, and reading. He can’t wait for another amazing summer at LYC!

Opti Coach
CATHRYN
Cathryn grew up sailing Optis and 420s out of Bay Head Yacht Club. Her hometown is Hoboken, New Jersey and she is committed to play soccer at Lehigh University as an incoming freshman this upcoming fall. Cathryn has worked at LYC since the summer of 2022 coaching beginner sailors, and worked at Beachwood Yacht Club the year prior. She loves coaching and getting to know the kids in the junior sailing program. Outside of sailing, Cathryn loves to play soccer and spend time at the Jersey shore beaches. She has loved her time working at LYC and surrounding herself with such a great community. She is so excited to continue what she loves to do this summer!

Opti Coach
KEVIN
Kevin sailed Optis at Beachwood Yacht Club and advanced his competitive sailing experience on Lasers at Toms River Yacht Club. Shortly after, he sailed Lasers for 73 Sailing and then discovered the c420. He crewed c420s for 73 Sailing and crewed for the Donovan Catholic Sailing Team. In his senior year, he skippered for Donovan Catholic. Kevin will be a freshman at Mass Maritime Academy in the fall and will sail onshore and offshore. His studies will focus on Marine Transportation with the goal of captaining a cruise ship. Aside from sailing, Kevin likes to learn languages, watch TV, play roller hockey, and enjoys video games. Kevin is stoked to be coaching this summer and is eager to share his knowledge with the passionate sailors at LYC!
Opti Coach
ELLISEN
Ellisen grew up spending her summers in Bay Head where she sailed Optis and 420s at BHYC. She currently lives in Wilmington, Delaware and will be attending the University of Richmond in the fall as a freshman. Ellisen worked at MRYC for two years where she taught intros and beginners. She is passionate about fostering a love for the sport from a young age and making sailors feel confident in their abilities. Besides sailing, Ellisen plays tennis and loves serving as a mentor to the younger children at her hometown club. She is so excited to be joining the LYC family!

Laser/ILCA
REAGAN
Reagan grew up sailing Optis, Fevas, and Lasers out of Ocean Gate Yacht Club for the past 8 years. During the school year she lives in Cranford, New Jersey and will be a senior in high school this upcoming fall. Outside of sailing, Reagan enjoys playing lacrosse for her high school and working with kids in many extra-curriculars, including her part time job at a daycare and as a volunteer lacrosse coach. This is Reagan’s first year instructing and she is so excited to be part of LYC’s supportive community. Reagan is passionate about inspiring young sailors and can’t wait to get to know all the amazing kids at Lavalette and have a great summer!

Opti Coach
AIDAN
Aidan grew up sailing at OGYC where he sailed Optis, Sunfish, and Lasers. Currently, he is a student at Central Regional High School and is set to graduate as part of the class of 2023. Come September, Aidan will begin his studies at Drexel University in Philadelphia for Mechanical Engineering. Besides sailing, Aidan finds joy in skateboarding, soccer, surfing, and playing the guitar. This upcoming summer marks Aidan's first summer coaching and he is filled with enthusiasm to motivate and inspire.

Opti Coach
ADDISON
Addison has grown up sailing Optis, Lasers, RS Fevas, and 420s on Barnegat Bay out of IHYC. She has had experience sailing in local, regional and national regattas including New Orleans and Newport, RI. During the off-season, she lives in Bedminster, NJ, attending Bernards High School where she will be a senior this coming fall. When she isn't sailing, she is either practicing the saxophone, reading, or biking around town - some of her favorite hobbies. This is Addison's first year coaching and she is very excited to get to show kids the joy of sailing at LYC. She can't wait to have a great summer!
