Our Instructors

KEVIN MARTIN
Kevin, a senior at Colts Neck High School grew up sailing Opti, 420, and Laser out of Seaside Park. Laser is his favorite because of its speed and simplicity. He also enjoys surfing, snowboarding, and being outside. He will be attending Florida Atlantic University in the fall to study business.

MCKENZIE KAPP
McKenzie, a graduate of Roanoke College, is from Harding, NJ and grew up sailing Opti, 420 and Sunfish at Mantoloking YC. McKenzie is in her fifth year of coaching and her fourth year at LYC. Her favorite thing about sailing is racing and the competitive nature of sailing. She also enjoys lacrosse, hiking, tennis and community service. She has three sisters who have coached at LYC.

CHARLIE MCKENZIE
Charlie, a junior at Conestoga High School, is from Berwyn, PA. He grew up sailing opti, and still sails 420s out of Mantoloking Yacht Club. He has sailed everything from E-scows to windsurfers, but his best experience in a boat was traveling to Lake Garda, Italy to compete against a thousand other sailors. When he is not sailing Charlie enjoys wrestling and surfing as well as spending time with his friends and family. He cannot wait for an amazing summer at LYC!


MATTHEW HAMELSKY
Matthew, a sailor on the Boston University sailing team, has made three appearances at the HS National Championship, won an Atlantic Coast Championship and captured back-to-back NJ State Championships. In addition, he has sailed lasers on the Surf City YC Race Team, M-Scows on the BBYRA and keelboats in TRYC's Wednesday series. When he's not on the water, Matthew is skiing in Vermont.

ABBY WAGNER
Abby, a junior at Penn State University, is from Mantoloking, NJ. She grew up sailing Opti and 420 at Mantoloking Yacht Club and prefers the 420 for its speed and the company on the boat. She also enjoys hanging out with friends and family, watching her younger siblings sail and playing tennis.


SHAWN TIRONE
Shawn, a senior attending Jackson Memorial High school, was born on Staten Island and grew up in Jackson where his love for sailing began. He quickly excelled in the Opti and then moved on to sail Laser and skipper 420 for his school. Although young, his desire for new challenges and opportunities propels him to always achieve higher.
