Our Instructors


Alissa is from Harding, NJ but grew up sailing at Mantoloking Yacht Club.  She has sailed Opti and c420, and loves them both.  Her favorite thing about sailing is racing and being out in the sun and open air.  Her hobbies include music, track and tennis.  She is a twin.


Lindsay, a senior at Morristown-Beard School, is from Short Hills, NJ.  She grew up sailing at BHYC where  she has sailed Opti and 420 -- 420 is her favorite.  Her favorite thing about sailing is trapping on the 420 to hold the boat down by hanging over the water.  Her hobbies include field hockey, ice hockey and lacrosse.  She is a big time skier, a twin and will attend Wake Forest in the Fall.


McKenzie, a senior at Roanoke College, is an education major. She is from Harding, NJ and grew up sailing Opti, 420 and Sunfish at Mantoloking YC.  McKenzie is in her fifth year of coaching and her fourth year at LYC. Her favorite thing about sailing is racing and the competitive nature of sailing. She also enjoys lacrosse, hiking, tennis and community service.  She has three sisters who have coached at LYC.


Amanda, a senior at The Lawrenceville School, is from Shrewsbury, NJ. She grew up sailing Opti and 420 at BHYC. She prefers the 420, because she loves going out on the trap and the company in the boat.  Amanda also plays volleyball and will attend Auburn University in the fall.


Lauren, a senior at Morristown-Beard School, is from Short Hills, NJ. She grew up sailing Opti and 420 at Bay Head Yacht Club and loves the freedom of being on the water. She also enjoys skiing, field hockey, ice hockey and lacrosse. She can’t wait for this summer and will attend Wake Forest in the fall.


Matthew, a four-year sailor on the Ranney Sailing Team, has made three appearances at the HS National Championship, won an Atlantic Coast Championship and captured back-to-back NJ State Championships. In addition, he has sailed lasers on the Surf City YC Race Team, M-Scows on the BBYRA and keelboats in TRYC's Wednesday series.  Matthew will sail on the Boston University team this fall.  When he's not on the water, Matthew is skiing in Vermont.


Abby, a sophomore at Penn State University, is from Mantoloking, NJ. She grew up sailing Opti and 420 at Mantoloking Yacht Club and prefers the 420 for its speed and the company on the boat. She also enjoys hanging out with friends and family, watching her younger siblings sail and playing tennis.


Ian, a junior at Rumson Fair Haven High School, grew up in Seaside Park and on the Barnegat Bay. He has raced on many boats ranging from Opti to big keel boats, but the 420 proves to be his favorite.  Ian is also a competitive soccer player and looks forward to a great summer in Lavallette.


Curtis, a senior at The Hun School, is from Lawrenceville, NJ. He grew up sailing Opti, Sunfish, 420 and Lightning at the Metedeconk River Yacht Club. His favorite part of sailing is being on the trapeze on days with lots of wind. This fall he will attend Drexel University where he will major in computer science.
