The Commodore's Mid-Season Letter

Since we've reached the mid-season mark, I would like to provide you with an update. LYC has been so fortunate to have many capable volunteers lead / participate in 29 committees. Because of their diligence, we are now reaping the benefits of their months of work in preparation for this summer’s season.

LYC's heart and soul is sailing, and if you’ve never tried, it is not too late to learn! The first Adult Beginner Sailing session on July 6 was attended by 17 club members. Our second session is set for 9 a.m. this Saturday, July 20. If you'd like to learn, sign up online now to join us. Our Junior Sailing program has over 70 students this summer. LYC Sunday Series is off to a great start thanks to the Race Committee and Patrol Fleet. Yes, it’s go time on the Bay!

LYC's House team is offering club members & their guests creative and delicious food & beverage options to explore. Replacement of certain appliances, enhanced event management & inventory controls now in place have improved the quality, labor efficiency, and cost effectiveness of both our kitchen & bar. The 2nd floor Commodore's Lounge, enjoyed by members wishing to have an indoor dining experience with their children, has been enhanced by the addition of a new bar with the best view of Barnegat Bay. The Opening Cocktail Party, Derby DeMayo, Independence Day Family Picnic, and Trivia Night have been fun, well-attended events.

The Hut has been modernized with electronic capabilities to generate inventory data and allow purchases to be made via your LYC POS member account or by credit card. Budget management and increased sales have contributed to a profitable Hut which offers a variety of high-quality LYC gear.

The Building & Ground Committees have made significant enhancements to the Club. Our custodian, Sud, is doing a terrific job for us, keeping our Club clean and tidy. New kayak and SUP racks have been constructed. To ensure the safety of members, guests, staff and LYC property, security cameras are in use throughout the facility and grounds.

The Planning Committee has made significant progress working with the architecture firm. Stay tuned for updates about the future of LYC. A newly completed, comprehensive Employee Handbook has been activated which protects both employees and the Club. The new ADP-provided payroll system is also working quite well.

At the June 21 Membership Meeting membership in attendance voted in favor of the updated, clarified LYC Bylaws. Be sure to attend our next Membership Meeting at 8:30 p.m. on the porch this coming Friday, July 19 to hear updates about all areas of LYC.

With everything that has already happened, there are still many more exciting and fun events ahead: Past Commodores' Dinner, Astronomy Night, Champagne Breakfast, Lobster Bake, Dock-Tails, LYC hosted BBYRA Regatta, and Paint & Pinot. Our Entertainment Committee has more terrific musical acts lined-up too. Adult Beginner sailing opportunities; SUP/Kayak Eco Tours; Junior activities/events; Clubs; Yoga—yes, there is plenty for all members to do on and off the water, no matter what your unique combination of interests may be!

The weekly Scuttlebutt and LYC website address all that LYC has to offer. If you’re not already receiving the Scuttlebutt, be sure to add yourself to the email distribution list so you don't miss out each week!

If you donate a can of food each week to the LYC Can Help the Hungry program (container by R to R double doors) we can have a huge impact on those less fortunate in our area. Please pitch in!

Lastly, I would like to thank the Board of Governors, committee chairs, and committee volunteers for making this season a great success for all members. Looking forward to seeing you all at the Club soon!

Warmest regards,

George Anderson
